The Repro Project #1:
PRESS

The Repro Project is a collection of installation performances created by an acrobat and visual artist/designer. A machine that reveals and questions the power and control of mankind.

Press is the first project that deals with the theme ‘dependency of technology’. On the border of visual arts and circus Camiel researches how we, humans, are relying on our machines. The work takes the shape of an installation, a construction that is the driving factor and the manipulated. Camiel searches for content in relation to his physical material. Press will be researched in different venues and public/open areas in order to find the right resonance of society.

Every different experiment/installation is one element of the full Repro Project.

PRESS: the process

Concept development.

Press started out with the idea of a machine that housed a human as key component for it to function correctly. With the idea of finding our place in a society almost run by computer-generated algorithms and machinery. Can we still say we are in control of our own lives?

“I imagined a box, let’s say a sort of old computer/machine, that moves a body around. Never knowing whether it was actually the machine that moves or the body. Would I be feeling trapped or in control?”

Build it.

“My ideas so far changed and I moved from a human trapped by means of straps/elastics to a bigger idea. A movable wall; connected by two corners over the diagonal, this wall can turn and move. A greater force that can fight against me or alongside me. Can I take control over it, or will I be overwhelmed? There is only one way to find out; Let’s make it!”

PRESS on stage.

PRESS found the stage on Festival Circolo in Tilburg (NL) and Theater op de Markt in Pelt (BE). At this moment we are looking for more places to show this work!

Reboot -> Press

In the end of last year (2020) Camiel started his first introduction in this theme in the MAAS theater. Then, under the working title ‘REBOOT’, he worked together with his brother on the concept of the innerworkings of a computer. Starting over and over, and being hook onto the motherboard.

This pre-research is were the first steps towards the current Press project.
