“To do things that seem physically and mentally impossible in order to achieve some form of ideal image was the drive behind my work; ‘the superhuman’. It started out as a fascination of extreme physicallity and the potential to communicate with it. During my studies as a circus artist, specialised in aerial straps and with a background in visual arts, my focus shifted away from ‘the superhuman’ and more towards a search for humanity. My work became more and more “inhumane” and I needed a more human anchor point. What makes us human? This (big) theme is the red thread of my current projects and will lead me to research mankind in relation to their creations (machines) and its surroundings (intimacy), in hopes of finding an answer to that question. Circus has the power to make the impossible seem probable.”
